Romance is Uncertainty ~ February 8th-14th, 2016

Le mystère de l’amour est plus grand que le mystère de la mort.

(The mystery of love is greater than the mystery of death.)

– Oscar Wilde, Salomé

This week begins with a New Moon on Monday and ends with Valentine’s Day on Sunday.

This Aquarian New Moon will engage your need for freedom and distance from whatever has become a huge struggle in your life. This need will be challenged by a square with Mars in Scorpio, creating an internal dialogue  that will echo with guilt and resentment. In the resistance against your own success, your fears will ultimately be overcome by the desire to do something important for the world.

You have a gift that you must find a way to share.

You may feel inspired to open yourself to the great love and passion, whether that be through a relationship, a spiritual pursuit or an artform. The mystery of love is greater than the mystery of death because love summons all of your inspiration and your will despite the inevitable finality of death. Love is how you connect to that which is eternal.

Suffice it to say that this week is a time to feel a huge shift in the perspective that you are approaching life with. This New Moon also marks the date of the Chinese New Year, ushering in the emergence of the energizing red fire monkey.

According to Chinese astrology, the year of the red fire monkey will be defined by marked creativity, experimentation and newfound mental agility. In addition, in the Northern Hemisphere, early February is also the season of Imbolc, which is a pagan tradition that welcomes the returning light of spring and offers an excellent time for clearing and purification.

In the middle of the week, Venus in Capricorn will trine Jupiter in Virgo, offering much potential for stable and healthy relationships. An earth trine may not seem like the most passionate and romantic influence, but it does encourage reciprocity, trust and healthy communication. Also, on Valentine’s Day, the Moon will be in Taurus, further activating the elemental influence of earth.

The Moon in Taurus is exalted, so Valentine’s Day (and night) offer a beautiful time to take a journey into the senses, relax deeply into the wisdom of the body, and enjoy intimacy in total surrender to the principle of pleasure.

Whether you celebrate Valentine’s Day with a lover or not, this is a beautiful night to alter your consciousness through the exploration of sensuality: tasting that which is delicious, touching that which is delightful, and inhaling that which is intoxicating.

“To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.”

― Oscar Wilde, An Ideal Husband

Monday/Tuesday: The Queen of Swords

On Monday, the New Moon in Aquarius will offer you a chance to galvanize any area of life where your spirit yearns for liberation. If you have felt undeserving or uninspired, prepare to envision a new way of living that is freed from those constraints.

Queen of Swords
The Queen of Swords shows a confident and relaxed swordswoman, dangling the loose head of a madman from her left hand. Now imagine yourself as this Queen and that you have just beheaded a prophet who had raving visions of the end of the world. (your world)

The crazed prophet is an aspect of yourself that espouses shame, fear and regret. The Queen of Swords reminds you that cutting down your fears with strength and confidence is a great act of self-love

“Those who see any difference between soul and body have neither.”

– Oscar Wilde, Phrases and Philosophies for the Use of the Young

Wednesday/Thursday: The Five of Wands

On Wednesday, Venus in Capricorn will trine Jupiter in Virgo. This aspect is one that calls you to explore the truth that your matter and spirit are emanations of one another. Therefore, as you care for the physical body, so too do you care for your spirit.

Also, in remembrance of Valentines Day’s theme of romantic love, it must be understood that the best way to attract loving relationships is by first becoming truly passionate about loving yourself. Loving yourself has nothing to do with becoming perfect, but has everything to do with finding the compassion and acceptance for yourself that you probably already offer to others. Learn to treat yourself at least as well as you treat your most beloved people!

The Five of Wands suggests that what is best for the health of your entire being is to avoid heavy competition and conflict in favor of relaxation and harmonious communication. Use this beautiful trine between Venus and Jupiter to assist your efforts to extricate unhealthy activities and distractions that divide your will and attention from your true passions.

“It is very romantic to be in love. But there is nothing romantic about a definite proposal. Why, one may be accepted. . .Then the excitement is all over. The very essence of romance is uncertainty…”

― Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest

Friday/Saturday/Sunday- The Ace of Cups

By Friday, the Moon will be in Aries giving you a rush and a push to make yourself vulnerable for the good of a higher cause. When others benefit from your offering, they will show you great love and appreciation in return. By simply giving freely of your time, telling a story about your own experiences or sharing a piece of original art, you are catalyzing the minds and hearts of others in immeasurable ways.

On Saturday, Mercury will enter Aquarius giving you access to a more macrocosmic way of thinking about your life. Mercury in Aquarius will provide much needed aid to whatever intentions you set at the New Moon on Monday. Expect to get a lot of clear thinking done from a new position of objectivity.

Sunday is Valentine’s Day, and the essence of romance is found in the pursuit of something that you are deeply inspired by. Communion with a lover may be how you choose to experience romance, but it is quite possible that you will be called to find romance in a transformative practice, in an immersive art form, or through a great adventure.

The “very essence of romance is uncertainty” so allow this Valentine’s Day to be a day where you cherish the novelty of all the tremendous possibilities ahead of you!

The Ace of Cups urges you to find beauty in whatever intimacy or kindness that you share with others, whether they be lovers, friends, or acquaintances. Fall deeply in love with life and relish the narcotic bliss of your dreams coming to fruition.
