10 Nov Think For Yourself ~ Full Moon in Taurus – November 14th, 2016
“Take responsibility for making your own life beautiful.”
–TIMOTHY LEARY, Your Brain Is God
On Monday, November 14th, 2016 there will be a Full Moon in the sign of Taurus, a fixed Earth sign that will hopefully bring a little stability to the volatile emotions still spiraling out of control after the U.S. Presidential Elections.
This Full Moon in Taurus may be unaspected, but it will be very powerful since it is the largest Full Moon (Supermoon) seen since 1948. With this Moon hovering so close to Earth, its effects may be more keenly felt than usual. Stop exhausting your mind and let physical sensation become your primary teacher.
“The language of God is not English or Latin; the language of God is cellular and molecular.”- TIMOTHY LEARY, “Leary calls LSD sacrament”,
The Tech, Nov. 8, 1966
The experience of pleasure is especially important for a Full Moon in Taurus as it is through pleasure that the body speaks to us most powerfully. Likewise, it is often through the absence of pleasure that we can learn much about what we should not be forcing ourselves to submit to.
For example, if you could attune yourself to fully feel the sick sensation of being propagandized, then you would be far less likely to let aggressive political lies force beliefs down your throat.
So, instead of numbing yourself and remaining docile, feel everything fully and see how much instinctual strength you have to protect yourself from harm.
At this Full Moon in Taurus, you will be given a perfect moment to re-attune to common sense. It is important that you stop all pretentious activities and really assess what you take genuine pleasure in. This will give you many answers about what is right for you physically, emotionally, and ideologically. Then you may expel anything that does not meet that criteria as poison.
As you search your soul, remember that there is no historical institution or modern political paradigm that has any satisfactory answers about “why” we are here and “how” we have come to be this way. Despite all the leaps and bounds of progress which humanity has made in terms of information technology, wisdom still waits in the shadows.
Every Full Moon marks an energetic climax, which illuminates what is culminating in your life. Full Moons are a time when we can allow the accumulated effects of misspent energies to dissipate as Moon begins to wane. If you have been grieving, hiding, or thrashing around, use this night to let yourself be still.
According to the wisdom of astrology, the Moon is exalted in the Earth sign of Taurus. This means that Taurus is the Moon’s favorite place to be. For as much as we know about the Moon’s affinity with shape-shifting water, (its natural element) it is within solid earth and definite form that the Moon takes her most ecstatic pleasures.
In Taurus, the wavering light calms, the shifting sand solidifies, and the Moon receives the vision of form within dimension, eternally flooded by sensate intelligence.
The Full Moon in Taurus breathes into the Earth, touching, tasting and feeling everything. This Full Moon will illuminate your senses, grounding your consciousness into your body. Thus, the wonder of infinity may be revealed through the experience of your own physical form. Thus, your unique intelligence will be realized as you contemplate the neural network of the human brain, quantum entanglements, and the phenomenon of corporeal memory.
“The universe is an intelligence test.”
TIMOTHY LEARY, attributed, Cosmic Trigger
Taurus is a Venus ruled sign, and on this night, Venus will be transiting through Capricorn. This is a sign that accentuates evolutionary instincts, prioritizing self-government, autonomy, and sovereignty above all other traits. But when Venus is in Capricorn, her message is simple:
“Take responsibility for making your own life beautiful.”
The Full Moon in Taurus will offer you a moment to realign yourself to this responsibility. It is a meditative pause where the wisdom of the body can reignite your will to think for yourself and question authority.
“Drop Out–detach yourself from the external social drama which is as dehydrated and ersatz as TV. Turn On–find a sacrament which returns you to the temple of God, your own body. Go out of your mind. Get high. Tune In–be reborn. Drop back in to express it. Start a new sequence of behavior that reflects your vision.”
-TIMOTHY LEARY, Turn on, Tune in, Drop out
This is why, Dr. Timothy Leary, always said, “Think for yourself, Question authority.” Considering the divisive political climate of the recent election and the hypnogogic power of mass media/social media/ and peer pressure, there has never been a better moment to listen to this essential wisdom.
The primacy of individual experience must not be forfeited in order to appease the status quo ideologies of the time. In other words, there is no right-side of history unless you are perfect alignment with your own thoughts, feelings and actions. Otherwise, you are just stuck on a tape loop of reactions and responses that have no real life force or sensate intelligence.
“When the individual’s behavior and consciousness get hooked to a routine sequence of external actions, he is a dead robot, and it is time for him to die and be reborn. Time to “drop out,” “turn on,” and “tune in.”
TIMOTHY LEARY, The Politics of Ecstasy
It takes some really deep calm and quiet to discover one’s true feelings nowadays. Remember, we have been propagandized through television. We have been propagandized through the internet. And we have been propagandized through ALL educational systems.
“Almost everyone today is brain-damaged by our education which is designed to produce docile automatons.”
TIMOTHY LEARY, Your Brain Is God
Fortunately, we can decondition ourselves from any damage that may have been done through any of these ideological weapons. But it requires that we follow a path of philosophical self-discovery and self-undoing.
There are countless role models from the past who can inspire us to liberate ourselves! But, for the sake of this reading, I have chosen Dr. Timothy Leary: a figure that really understands the endemic conditions of our times.
“After you turn on, don’t spend the rest of your life contemplating the inner wonders. Begin immediately expressing your revelation in acts of beauty.”TIMOTHY LEARY, Your Brain Is God
In light of the political climate on BOTH sides, it is not surprising at all that someone like Timothy Leary would remain a controversial figure to this day. I can’t imagine the Democrats or the Republicans having any tolerance for his message of consciousness expansion and individual sovereignty.
As a textbook heretic, Leary encouraged thinking, feeling people to reject mainstream society for the sake of their own evolution. This sentiment was famously summarized in the phrase, “turn on, tune in and drop out.”
Despite Leary’s subversive and anti-establishment reputation, it is important to remember that before he was a heretic, he was a very well respected Harvard psychologist who was given grants and research assistants to study the therapeutic effects of psilocybin mushrooms and LSD.
Dr. Leary revolutionized psychology and American culture with studies that insisted that psychedelic drugs had enormous potential for healing, positive consciousness change and deconditioning from trauma. Not surprisingly, in the early 1960’s, Dr. Leary was fired from Harvard University for dabbling in studies that might tarnish the reputation of the department.
Less than five years later, all psychedelic research was made illegal without any regard for the healing potentials that had been discovered.
But sometimes the most heinous of actions bring about the most healing of results. Perhaps it is the great contrast between the human potential for hatred/ignorance and the human potential for love/creativity that is ultimately the energy behind the evolutionary pistons.
For example, when Dr. Timothy Leary was thrown in prison (solitary confinement, no less) for espousing ideas that opposed the government, his newfound status as martyr catalyzed his position in society to a place of great power. His words, now so forbidden, glowed ever more brightly than they ever could have if Dr. Leary had remained a quiet psychologist acting within the limits of the law.
With this dynamic of life in mind, let this Full Moon in Taurus ground you back into your body where you can gain some perspective about how failures can become victories and how many losses can become eventual gains. The patience that Taurus possesses will serve you well in this endeavor.
No matter how you are feeling about the political climate at the moment, remember that the sacred evolves from the profane. The process of living through all states of consciousness, from ecstatic to defeated, is the only way we learn to utilize our free will.
Transcendence lies before those who seek to understand their own bliss and their own pain. The only error lies in succumbing to artificial stagnation and rigidity, which prohibits the quest for self-realization.
The beauty is that you don’t need anyone’s permission to think for yourself and to question authority.
