Eternity in an Hour~ December 4th-10th, 2017

This is the third week of Sagittarius season. This week represents a recovery from the weekend’s full moon in Gemini, and will allow you to acclimatize to the warbling effects of the Mercury retrograde.

Sagittarius is the sign of philosophers and fanatics–wisdom seekers inflamed upon a quest for universal Truth. This mutable fire sign is symbolized by the archer, or rather, the archer’s arrow. You can think of this arrow as the point of an argument that cuts through consensus reality to reveal the deeper truths about the universe. By piercing the fabric of spacetime, the archer reveals new tapestries of reality that lie beneath the senses. This arrow’s tip opens consciousness to see…

…a World in a Grain of Sand

And a Heaven in a Wild Flower

The arrow is aimed at the heart of authority. To fire it, the archer must be grounded in his element, immolated by a passion that burns at the heart of all seekers. It’s that crazy wisdom that fearlessly mocks ruling authority–be it scientific, religious or political authority.

With so inflamed a cosmic vision, the archer can only laugh at figures of authority, for he can see them as nothing more than enlarged shadows cast on the wall–infinitesimal specks posturing as solar systems. To grip the archer’s bow is to

Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand

And Eternity in an hour

As the arrow of eternity pierces the sky and the Sun descends into the heart of Sagittarius, the days will continue to shorten at a rapid pace. As the night consumes the day with ravenous delight, you will be forced to acknowledge the eternal fusion and fission of mind from body, body from mind. As the bodymind settles into its natural conjunction, the authority that you will do battle with the most will be that of your own.

The divide of body from mind has been a scientific/cultural institution in the developed world since the Enlightenment, and the majority of its citizens have taken on a kind of Stockholm-syndrome to uphold their conditioning. As soon as a child is on two legs, they are led to believe they are separate from the rest of the world and divided from themselves. They’re forced to adopt the ideology of the colonizer, eventually becoming their own slavemaster in a dialectical game of domination against their true nature.

He who shall teach the Child to Doubt

The rotting Grave shall neer get out

He who respects the Infants faith

Triumphs over Hell & Death

But a revolt is brewing this week. It will come as a shock to learn that the beliefs you uphold as gospel truth are mere misinterpretations of data inherited through generations of ideological servitude. Your resistance will be met by a counter-resistance, as you try desperately to cling on to the authority of facts.

But this week, a total vision of all that is will prove wrong the facts of blind faith that bind consciousness in mind forged manacles. The boundless corridors of the mind will once again be contained in body, just as eternity can be held in an hour. The authority of mind/body dualism will collapse, and there will be much help from the heavens.

The week will begin with Jupiter in Scorpio’s trine to Neptune in Pisces, giving your vision a great expansion that can see through the darkest waters where swim the strangest ideas. With retrograde Mercury aspecting Saturn and Uranus this week, authority will be challenged and revolutions will be declared.

Mars will enter Scorpio this week, bringing a lust for victory against the forces of mental oppression. And this is Saturn’s final week in Sagittarius before he enters his rulership in Capricorn, when his authority will be fortified and order will be restored. But until that time, the revolution will carry on with strategic precision and tactical uncertainty.

In order to grasp the revolution you will undergo this week, it is a good idea to revisit that consummate Sagittarian poet and painter, William Blake. His radical vision of eternity led Blake to challenge the authorities of his time in both the scientific and political spheres. In a polemic against the Newtonians, who believed the Sun to be nothing more than a burning stone floating millions of miles away in empty space, Blake famously declared,

Nonsense! I know what the Sun is! It’s a choir of angels singing,

‘Glory! Glory! Glory to the Lord God! Hallelujah!”

And there is perhaps no Blake piece that captures his radical cosmic vision so succinctly as his Auguries of Innocence.

As if possessed by the ghosts of Isaiah and Elijah, William Blake composed Auguries of Innocence as a prophetic judgement against his society’s corruption and chaos. The rough rhyme scheme only adds to the sensation of righteous fury, imparting an urgency to the reader.

With fists raised towards the sky, Auguries of Innocence is Blake at his most sublime. With a surge of passion wrought straight from the heart of Sagittarius, Blake envisions a vast array of contradictory situations, heavy with apocalyptic omens.

Every Night & every Morn

Some to Misery are Born

Every Morn and every Night

Some are Born to sweet delight

Some are Born to sweet delight

Some are Born to Endless Night

But great art is never meant to serve as a final judgement of doom. Blake eventually begins to soften his provocations, acknowledging that the world’s misery is not a reason to submit to despair. In Auguries of Innocence, Blake’s intention was to create a sensation of the sublime, an experience of “joy and woe” which reveals the true warp and weft of reality.

Man was made for Joy & Woe

And when this we rightly know

Thro the World we safely go

Joy & Woe are woven fine

A Clothing for the soul divine

Under every grief & pine

Runs a joy with silken twine

So this week, allow the big picture to unfold. With ever widening eyes, you will certainly be haunted by visions of the great misery in the world. But the macrocosmic vision that Sagittarius offers also includes the light in the dark, the exuberant joy that life also offers. Let yourself remain open to immensity, experiencing the genuine bliss and sublimity of confronting the vastness of universe.

Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand

And Eternity in an hour

Monday/Tuesday: The Poison of the Honey Bee

The Moon will be waning in the last degrees of Gemini, slowly unwinding from the Full Moon’s climactic energies. Mercury, now in retrograde motion, will be inching back towards a conjunction with Saturn that will find its heaviest moment in the middle of the week. Allow yourself to slow down a bit. Allow your schedule to relax a little wherever possible.

Wednesday/Thursday: The Questioner Who Sits So Sly

In the middle of the week, Mercury make his precise conjunction with Saturn making your intellectual work challenging. Your thoughts will tend to be quite serious at this time, uncovering any latent feelings of isolation or alienation you may harbor.

However, this conjunction of Mercury/Saturn will also sextile Mars in the last degrees of Libra. This will activate a drive to find solutions and use a reliable methodology in which to approach your current challenges. If there is a great challenge in your life that you have been avoiding, allow these potent influences help you to find the strength, will and acumen to overcome them. It may be just the time to call the student loans office, draw up the blueprints, or finish a dissertation.

Friday/Saturday/Sunday: If the Sun & Moon Should Doubt

On Saturday, Mars will finally leave his place of debility in Libra and enter into his place of rulership in Scorpio. Having long been restrained by customary diplomacy and the rule of compromise, Mars will now return to a stance that is prepared for conflict. If you have been lacking in lust for life, then Mars’ transit through Scorpio may dredge up many passions and hungers that have been lost to you.

With a renewed appetite for raw potent life experience, expect this transit to propel you into more courageous acts of daring. Keep in mind though that the thrilling momentum in Mars in Scorpio carries with it an innate lust for power. When challenged or denied, Mars in Scorpio can be rutheless. Keep your eye out for hidden enemies who reveal themselves as direct antagonists during this time.

On Sunday, Mercury will trine Uranus in Aries. This is a transit that should be philosophically interesting. Allow for foreign ideas and strange concepts to influence your imagination.

On the same day, Venus in Sagittarius will square Neptune in Pisces. This may manifest as a feeling of shame, an inability to feel lovable or loved. Whether this signal comes in through another person’s negating comments or through your own disappointment with what you see in the mirror, remember that these feelings are a momentary lapse in judgement.

You are being called to reach deeper for the strength to love yourself just as you are. If you find yourself caught in one of these moments of sadness, think of the person you love the most in the world. Treat yourself as you would treat them and talk to yourself as you would talk to them.
