08 Sep Work is Love Made Visible ~ New Moon in Virgo- September 9th, 2018
Work is love made visible.
On Sunday, September 9th, 2018 there will be a New Moon in the mutable earth sign of Virgo.
New Moons occur when the Sun and the Moon conjoin, blending their energies into a unified force. Thus, the power of rebirth and regeneration is enhanced at every New Moon, offering an opportunity to refresh your creative and emotional energies.
This New Moon is a perfect time to pause and reflect upon what new story you like to begin living out.
Whatever new direction you choose to begin following, the New Moon in Virgo will aid you in making thoughtful and careful decisions. It is Virgo that recognizes and maintains the divine order of the cosmos. Thus, this is the season that illuminates the sacred patterns of creation.
Virgo season is humbling because that quality is a part of listening to the earth’s wisdom. The word human and humble both are derived from the latin word humus, which means earth.
You work that you may keep pace with the earth and the soul of the earth.
For to be idle is to become a stranger unto the seasons,
The wisdom of Virgo remembers that you were born from the Earth’s divine order. At this New Moon in Virgo you will seek to align yourself more with the sacred heart of the Earth, as it is revealed in geometry, harmonics and proportion.
Motivated by the desire to serve the Earth’s divine will, Virgo season tends to become very busy with work.
When you work you are a flute through whose heart the whispering of the hours turns to music.
And yet it is so reductive to think of work as something bitter or mundane. In most popular astrology, the New Moon in Virgo is interpreted as being a time for cleaning house and purifying one’s diet. Though practical and healthful routines do resonate with Virgoan wisdom, the sign of the Virgin has a much more sacred purpose.
And what is it to work with love?
It is to weave the cloth with threads drawn from your heart,
even as if your beloved were to wear that cloth.
Virgo is the home and temple of Mercury, the only sign in the zodiac where a ruling planet is also exalted. When Mercury is in his other sign of rulership, Gemini, a vast amount of knowledge is collected and disseminated. But his passage through Virgo processes and distills all that knowledge into essential wisdom.

It is for this reason that Mercury in Virgo corresponds to the messengers of the Earth’s most primordial wisdom: the Egyptian God Thoth and his Greek analogue Hermes Trismegistus.
It was Thoth who gave the Egyptians the gifts of magic, writing and science. And it was Hermes Trismegistus who transmitted the wisdom of alchemy, the practice of purifying matter.
Because of the Virgin’s penchant for devoted work and the desire to purify and refine, Virgo is the natural sign of the alchemist, who seeks spiritual enlightenment through the practice of inner transformation.
At this New Moon in Virgo, what once contaminated your life can now be purified. What once was poison can now be transformed into medicine.
Always you have been told that work is a curse and labour a misfortune.
But I say to you that when you work you fulfill a part of earth’s furthest dream, assigned to you when that dream was born,
This New Moon is a perfect time to begin a ritual that is intended to refine and purify your intentions. You can begin a new chapter of your life now, one that is devoted to being of service to the world in a loving and humble way.
This New Moon is very fortunate to begin something important under because there is an harmonious relationship to Jupiter’s sextile to Pluto. Anyone who is sincere about initiating a process of positive transformation will be greatly supported.
The most influential aspect to this New Moon is an opposition with Neptune in Pisces. This may have a slightly narcotic effect for those who are susceptible to mixing and mingling their waking life with dreams.
In Neptune’s ocean, Virgo still dreams of perfect spheres, Praxitelean proportions, and utopian kingdoms. Though some of your rational thinking may be led astray, there is potent visionary potential here. After all, dreaming the impossible dream can offer genuine inspiration for making better choices in the real world.
It is to sow seeds with tenderness and reap the harvest with joy,
even as if your beloved were to eat the fruit.
Ideals of perfection offer a reason to to keep growing whereas perfectionism offers an excuse to remain stagnant. Therefore, do not allow yourself to become ensconced in a daydream about an indefinite someday when perfection will finally be attained. Instead use this New Moon in Virgo as a time to do something practical to improve your circumstances now.
And he alone is great who turns the voice of the wind into a song made sweeter by his own loving.
This New Moon arrives on a nourishing wave and the harmonious aspects to Jupiter and Pluto will offer you many gifts that will help you succeed. All you have to do is devote yourself to your work.
Like an alchemist, whose labors have great spiritual purpose, find a way to love your work.
Work is love made visible.
There is no greater evocation of the spirit of this New Moon in Virgo than in Khalil Gibran’s poem On Work. This was one of the 26 poems in his book, The Prophet published in 1923.
Every poem in The Prophet offers a guiding light of deep spiritual wisdom and divine beauty. But On Work is a great reminder of how life should be lived.
He says:
You work that you may keep pace with the earth and the soul of the earth.
He reminds us that part of divine order is to follow a seasonal rhythm and routine. Work is not meant to be viewed as a curse or a misfortune, but instead as an opportunity to love the earth and the life that she has given you.
Learning to be like the earth is to live in harmony with cycles and rhythms. He speaks of unity and accord, equating human labor as a collective offering to nature.
On Work also teaches another great truth about magic, which is that one’s intention is what really matters. Without love, your work becomes corrupted and poisonous.
He says:
And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy….
And if you grudge the crushing of the grapes, your grudge distils a poison in the wine.
In perfect alignment with the Earthen wisdom of Virgo, Gibran makes it clear that the only way to experience good results in your work is to dedicate your heart to it. When you are devoted to spreading love through your work, then the cloth that you weave, the seeds you sow and harvest you share are all sacred offerings to the divine.
To love your work is to live like the Virgin, finding deep contentment in a sacred place of service.
At this New Moon in Virgo, set the intention to share the light of your heart with the world through your work.
