Primal Scream ~ Full Moon in Libra- March 28th, 2021

On March 28th, 2021 there will be a Full Moon in the cardinal air sign of Libra. This first Full Moon of the season upon the axis of Aries/Libra stirs up the tension between self and other, commands and compromise.

The Moon in Libra is inspired by a refined ideal of balance. But on this night, the element of fire will be untamable, quickening the pulse and piercing through the numbness in your head, heart, and limbs.

Balance does not simply happen. In the world of paradox built on binaries, balance is often achieved through conflict and disruption. True balance requires recalibration, inviting the wild vacillation of polarities to be expressed before discovering the center of gravity that brings everything back into peace. This is a Full Moon for open-heart alchemy, where all the stale energy and bloodsucking parasites will be burned away, catabolized into a sunburst of new life! After months of wintry weariness, the Sun in Aries will hit you with the question:

“Just what is it that you want to do?”

The Sun’s transit through Aries marks the explosive start to the astrological new year. Aries season brings the springtime frenzy of renewal, igniting a lust for life and a thrashing spirit of individuality.

The Sun, Venus, and Chiron are all exactly conjunct in Aries, rendering this Moon in Libra a soft-spoken diplomat at the feet of a barbarian king.

Venus, the ruler of the Moon in Libra, is in her detriment in Aries. In this martial sign, Venus offers the antithesis of people-pleasing and diplomacy. Inflamed by passions and selfish desires, Venus in Aries does little to temper the fiery enthusiasm. Instead, like Queen Cleopatra, she seduces Caesar to expand her own empire.

With the fires of Aries lighting up the sky, expect this Full Moon in Libra to stir up a conflict that will challenge you to grow. There is danger and pain, but you must find the courage!

We wanna be free to do what we wanna do

That’s what we’re gonna do, no way, baby, let’s go

The Arian influence awakens the primal need for growth as an individual, bursting forth in a frenzy of passion. The more repressed you have been, the more furiously these fires will burn.

You want to be free to do what you want to do. The spirit of Aries is the boundless enthusiasm of a springtime lamb dancing through the meadow. As the first sign of the zodiac, it contains the child-like wonder of the sacred “yes!” so vital to happiness, health, and well-being.

We’re gonna have a good time

we’re gonna have a party

The spirit of Aries breaks through all barriers and initiates rapid growth! While the Moon in Libra is inspired by the power of art to bring people together in harmony. This quality is beautifully evoked by the Primal Scream song Loaded from their 1991 album Screamadelica. Loaded was the band’s first major hit, the thing that broke them out of obscurity!

still from The Wild Angels

Featuring samples of Peter Fonda from The Wild Angels, an iconic motorcycle film, Loaded offers the pure essence of Aries, a bombastic rush of blood to the head that awakens the spirit of dance. With gospel choirs, drums, horns, slippery bass, piano and guitars, Loaded initiates you into the Arian spirit of ecstatic freedom and boundless enthusiasm.

Beneath the Full Moon, you might ride off into the night, declare your undying love, or have a brutally honest conversation. Inspiration will guide you towards whatever breakthrough awaits.

The conjunction of Chiron and Venus will bring hyper-sensitivity and hot tempers to relationships. As some of your most vulnerable fears surface, you may lash out or try to escape. But the gentle air of the Moon in Libra will cool you down, reminding you to be patient. Everyone has been through hell over the last year and needs time to heal.

Sad as it may be, it was last March when the first lockdown began. Since then, loss and hardship have stricken every community. And the collective psyche has been so ravaged by misinformation that great existential meltdown has stirred more fear of other people than the virus. Meanwhile, governments around the world have imposed indefinite restrictions on information, free expression, free assembly and privacy in the name of public health.

Basic psychology has demonstrated that repression of any primal need starves the soul and creates a monstrous shadow of tyranny, hatred and dehumanization. So what happens when the need to breathe, embrace, gather, speak and provide service is repressed for a lengthy amount of time? By external measures, it seems a very dark age has descended.

I’m gonna get deep down, deep down

The influence of Chiron at this Full Moon offers the potential for tremendous insight into your deepest pain. Chiron is the wounded healer that transforms suffering into the medicine of compassion.

The Chironic energy of this Full Moon will get deep down, into the shadow you’ve been avoiding. The magic of Chiron taps into the truth of your soul, into the resentment beneath your apathy, and into all the rage you’ve been swallowing.

I said I’m gonna get deep down, deep down

The fires of Chiron in Aries are there to awaken a primal scream, releasing your burdens to the light within and resurrecting long buried passions. This radiant light will chase the shadows away, dissolve the entropy and thaw out the numbness.

No matter what has happened in the past, the spirit of Aries remains forever cheerful. The exalted Sun has no fear of the darkness, for it pierces through the void and ignites the spark of creation in all things.

The Sun in Aries craves the opportunity to break through the darkness, turned on by the adrenaline rush of battle. The warring instinct is not driven by bloodlust, but the knowledge that tremendous growth is catalyzed by struggle. This is why the spirit of Aries also represents birth, observed in blades of grass breaking the surface, beaks pecking themselves out of shells, and a bloody head crowning through the birth canal.

Aries initiates the zodiac, propelling the wheel of time forward with the innocence and forgetting of a child.  A child is not burdened by the past, but is excited to discover the future! The great philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche, believed that a truly free spirit most closely resembled a child at play, illuminated by joy and free to discover the world for the first time.

In his tremendous philosophical work, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Friedrich Nietzsche describes spiritual evolution through the metamorphic parable of the camel, the lion and the child.

Three metamorphoses of the spirit I named for you:

how the spirit became a camel, and the camel a lion, and finally a child.

He described the spiritual journey beginning with the form of a camel, who carries the burdens of others beliefs, emotions and habits. Sound familiar?

Just what is it that you want to do?

The camel struggles to carry the weight of the world until it reaches a breaking point and runs into a lonely desert of despair. Here is where it first imagines freedom. At that moment, the camel transforms into a lion.

We wanna be free, we wanna be free to do what we wanna do

The lion is a king, free to roam and blessed with the ferocity of the “Sacred No”. The lion fights off attackers with great courage, taking pride in his teeth and claws. But eventually, the lion grows tired of fighting and longs for life to be playful and fun. In this moment, the joyous child emerges. Blessed by the power of the “Sacred Yes”, the child dances with the eternal flux of creation.

we wanna have a good time

The first Full Moon of the season burns with pain and flutters with the excitement that precedes metamorphosis. If you’ve been like the long-suffering camel, you may suddenly roar to life as the lion, finally able to fight back and say “no.” Or if you’ve been the lion, exhausting yourself in the fight against oppressors, this may be your time to emerge as the divine child, blessed by the “sacred yes!”

The child is innocence and forgetting.

The balance struck by the Full Moon in Libra rests upon the poise of the child, whose innocence looks upon the world with love and excitement. The child bears no grudges about the suffering experienced as the camel or the lion. The child’s forgetting is not amnesia, but the soul’s liberation from the past.

Happy Full Moon!

Much Love,

Rachel
